Uncorked Together ("we," "us," "our") is a wine discovery app that helps you find wines you'll love and celebrates wineries owned by Black, LGBTQIA+, women, and other underrepresented communities. This Privacy Policy explains what we collect, how we use it, and the choices you have.
For privacy law purposes, Uncorked Together is the data controller (or "business" under California law) for personal information collected through the app.
Information we collect
Account info. Email, display name, and (optional) avatar when you create an account.
Taste profile. Answers to the taste quiz (sweetness, body, flavor preferences, budget) so we can recommend wines.
Wine activity. Wines you save, love, rate, review, and submit to the community library, including any photos you upload.
Location. Approximate location, only when you tap "Near me" to find nearby wineries. We do not track your location in the background and we do not store your coordinates on our servers.
Waitlist & forms. Email address if you join the waitlist, and the details you provide in a partner application or support message.
Device & usage. Standard log data such as device type, browser, and pages viewed, used to keep the app running and improve it.
How we use your information
- Personalize recommendations and your home feed.
- Show your reviews, ratings, and submitted wines to the community.
- Award badges and save bottles to your shelf.
- Send transactional messages (account, security, and requests you make).
- Detect abuse, moderate content, and keep the community safe.
We do not sell or share your personal information for cross-context behavioral advertising, and we have not done so in the past 12 months.
Legal bases for processing (EU/UK users)
- Contract. Creating and running your account and delivering the features you ask for.
- Consent. Location when you tap "Near me," optional marketing email, and any optional photo uploads. You can withdraw consent at any time.
- Legitimate interests. Keeping the app secure, preventing abuse, moderating community content, and improving the product.
- Legal obligation. Responding to lawful requests and meeting age-restriction requirements.
Cookies and local storage
We use only strictly necessary browser storage — a sign-in session token and your saved preferences (such as your taste quiz answers on this device). We do not use advertising cookies, third-party trackers, or cross-site profiling, so no cookie consent banner is required. Clearing your browser storage signs you out and clears local preferences.
Service providers (subprocessors)
We use trusted third parties to run the app. Each one processes data only on our instructions under a written data processing agreement. See the full list on our Subprocessors page.
International data transfers
Our infrastructure providers are based in the United States, so if you use the app from the EU, UK, or elsewhere, your information will be transferred to and processed in the U.S. Where required, these transfers rely on the European Commission's Standard Contractual Clauses (and the UK Addendum) included in our providers' data processing terms.
Data retention
We keep your account and activity data while your account is active. If you delete your account, we remove your profile, taste quiz, saved shelf, and account email within 30 days. Waitlist emails are kept until you ask to be removed or we launch and you decline to create an account. Community reviews and wines you contributed may remain visible in anonymized form to preserve the shared library. Backups age out within 90 days.
Your rights (GDPR)
If you're in the EU, UK, or another region with similar laws, you have the right to:
- Access a copy of the personal data we hold about you.
- Correct inaccurate or incomplete data.
- Delete your data ("right to be forgotten").
- Restrict or object to certain processing, including direct marketing.
- Receive your data in a portable, machine-readable format.
- Withdraw consent at any time, without affecting processing already carried out.
- Lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority (in the UK, the ICO).
Your rights (California — CCPA/CPRA)
California residents have the right to:
- Know what categories of personal information we collect, why, and who we share it with.
- Access the specific pieces of personal information we hold.
- Delete personal information, subject to legal exceptions.
- Correct inaccurate personal information.
- Opt out of sale or sharing — we do not sell or share personal information, so there is nothing to opt out of.
- Limit use of sensitive personal information — we do not use sensitive personal information for inferring characteristics.
- Non-discrimination for exercising any of these rights.
Categories we collect: identifiers (email, display name), commercial/preference information (taste profile, saved and reviewed wines), internet activity (app usage logs), approximate geolocation (only when you tap "Near me"), and user-generated content (photos, reviews). We collect these directly from you.
How to exercise your rights
Update your profile and taste quiz any time in the app, or send us a formal request on our Data Rights page. We verify requests using the email address on your account and respond within 30 days (45 days for California requests, extendable once with notice). You may use an authorized agent; we may ask for written proof of authorization.
Age
Uncorked Together is intended for users of legal drinking age in their country of residence (21+ in the United States). We do not knowingly collect information from anyone under that age. Do not use the app if you are under that age.
Security
Data is encrypted in transit (HTTPS) and at rest by our hosting provider. Access to personal data is limited to accounts that need it, and database access rules restrict each user to their own records.
Changes
We may update this policy from time to time. When we do, we'll update the "Last updated" date above and, for significant changes, notify you in the app or by email.
